Rory Winter is heading off to Iowa Lakes Community College on a full athletic scholarship.

Winter, a product of Ipswich Basketball Club has shown big improvements this year posting season tallies of 11.7 PPG, 5.5 RPG & 3.9 APG in the EABL who will be competing for the Lakes in Region 11 (NJCAA Division II).

We got a chance to find out from Rory on his upcoming move to the USA.

“I would like to thank my parents first for supporting me throughout the whole process, I’d also like to thank the coaching team around me for the last three seasons: Nick Drane, Tom Sadler and Adam Robinson. They have allowed me to push myself and compete at a high level.”

“I originally started talking to the school in December which gave me the opportunity to get to know the coaches well which was a leading factor in my decision. The region they play in is very competitive and will push me personally to improve my game.”

“I’m really excited to be joining the team next season! My goal is to go and make an impact in a positive way, with a team goal of winning our conference! My overall aim is to then gain a place at an NCAA University after my time at junior college is over.”

Head Coach Nick Drane puts Winter’s scholarship down to hard work and putting in the hours.

“We are all incredibly proud of Rory, he’s earned this. I’ve seen very few kids who have this kind of work ethic – he’s a gym rat, both in the weight room and on court, putting in the hours on his own time as well as scheduled academy and club practices.”

“He’s a great advert for our programme and a credit to his family and to Copleston High School.”

From everyone at DENG Camp we want to wish Rory all the success in his future at Iowa Lakes Community College.
