Josh McSwiggan has transferred from Casper College signing a National Letter of Intent to NCAA Division I University of Portland.

The 6ft 7″ Wing from Charnwood College was ranked #8 at the 2014 camp where Head Coach Terry Porter is delighted to have McSwiggan join the Pilots for his remaining three seasons of eligibility.

“Josh will be a good fit on campus and is expected to be an impact player for our program,” Porter said.

“He has great size for his position and will be a versatile wing in our system. Josh is extremely athletic, can shoot with range, and is a good passer.”

A member of Great Britain Youth National Teams, McSwiggan (6-7, 200) signed with UTEP following his prep career and redshirted the 2015-16 season with the Miners after an NCAA ruling requiring him to sit out one year.

He transferred to Casper College in Wyoming and averaged 13.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game this season. He shot 44 percent from the field, 34 percent from three-point range and 82 percent at the free throw line. The team posted a 24-9 overall record in McSwiggan’s lone season with the Thunderbirds.

“Josh is one of the most talented, versatile guys we have had come through here that has ever put on a Thunderbird uniform,” said Casper head coach Dan Russell.

“He is a tremendous kid who excels in the classroom and is a great teammate. He has played a vital role in the Thunderbirds success this year, and it is because of his tremendous work ethic.”

McSwiggan joins a highly rated incoming class for Porter and the Pilots that includes four players that signed during the November signing period. The diverse group was rated the No. 17 class in the nation and the top mid-major recruiting class after the early signing period by the Hoop Scoop.

From everyone at DENG Camp we want to wish Josh all the success in his future at Portland University.
