Last years #14 ranked and London Thunder’s Josh Edwards is undertaking a prep year at DME Sports Academy in Florida.

The 6ft 4″ Guard put up some serious numbers last season in U18 and Division 2 posting averages of 25.3 PPG, 7.7 RPG & 6.9 APG where he is off to the USA hoping to gain a NCAA Division I scholarship. We find out more about his journey to the USA.

I found out about the school because my friend and previous teammate Tyler Sealy went there last year and improved massively. He put on 30 lbs. and ended up getting a good scholarship for a College in Buffalo.

The facilities are amazing and the amount of games and coaches that come to observe practices gives me a great opportunity for more exposure.

My goals while I’m here are to adapt to the American style of basketball, and get physically stronger. After seeing the development that Tyler and others made, I knew that by coming here massive improvement technically and physically was a given, as long as I work hard. The academy is also helping me with my ACT prep.

Ultimately I hope this will increase my chances to get a Division 1 scholarship.

I would like to thank my family first of all as they all give me massive support. Especially my Mum, Nan and Dad who I live with and without them, none of this would have even been an option. My Mum works for the club while also having her own job, her hard work and driving my to and from practice helped to make this possible.

On the basketball side, the experience of being on the national programme has aided my development since I was 14 and also my sixth form of Hayes School and Coach Steve Rich supported my participation in the sport despite not being a basketball academy.

But by far the biggest impact on my life and basketball career has been my club London Thunder. It is a big part of me, and everyone there has contributed into making me the player I am today.

I’d like to thank the coaches I’ve had during my time there such as Josh Davis who coached me for 3 years in addition to Steve Bucknall and Dejan Paunovic who have helped me progress from when I started at the club all the way through to my final years of under 18s.

I have great relationships with my coaches and discussions with Coach Bucknall significantly helped my decision as he has been through the whole process himself. The club and coaches have influenced me greatly both as a person and a player and for that I will be forever grateful.
