Jake Sirrell is the only Scottish player at this year’s #DENGTOP50 camp and is looking to represent well as the week goes on.

Sirrell joined the other players on camp on Wednesday to set to work as they took aim at the #1 spot.

“I live in Dunfermline in Scotland and started playing basketball when I was about 13 by a friend introducing me to the sport. I started playing for Dunfermline Rain and six months later I began playing for the Scottish National team at U13s.

“I have moved up the age groups as the years progressed to now play with the U18s and have just come back from European Championships with the team. I felt really proud to play for Scotland this summer but it was a really hard and difficult experience with the level being much higher in other countries than in Scotland.”

Sirrell will take the floor with fellow elite players from the UK as they try to get their name on the #1 spot at the end of the week but the young Scot is realistic at the challenge all players face on camp.

“One of my friends from Scotland was selected for the camp last year, he explained how the level was much higher than Scotland and that the players were on a higher level so I am looking forward to learning over the coming days and having fun.

“Being the only players from Scotland this year, there is a little bit of pressure. I just hope to try my hardest and do the best I can to represent Scottish Basketball.”

Sirrell has high hopes for basketball in the future with his immediate aspiration being to play for Great Britain U20s next summer.

“I want to play for Great Britain Under 20s so this camp is a good step as it will let me see how I fair against players from my age group.”
