Sedale Hanson-Young will be heading off to powerhouse prep school Notre Dame in Massachusetts for a year before embarking on college basketball in the NCAA.

Birmingham-based Hanson-Young, who impressed off the bench in his debut season in the British Basketball League (BBL) last season, had received interest from NCAA Division One schools but has instead opted to attend a preparatory school for a year to allow him to adjust his game before embarking on the American collegiate route.

Notre Dame Prep has a history of producing top players, with Houston Rockets’ Michael Beasley and Oklahoma City Thunder centre Steven Adams among alumni to have trodden a path to the world-famous NBA.

It has been a whirlwhind few days for Hanson-Young, who also played last season for Team Birmingham in the Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL), with his performances in both the BBL and EABL securing his spot in the preliminary Great Britain under-20s squad for the European Championships this summer.

Hanson-Young led the EABL in points scored last season, averaging 24 points per game during an eye-catching campaign.

In what was his debut year with a professional club while with the Phoenix, Hanson-Young appeared in 30 BBL games, starting twice, averaging one assist and two points in just under 12 minutes per game.

We want to wish Sedale all the best at Notre Dame Prep.
