Evan Walshe has really made a name for himself this summer which has now been topped off by gaining a full USA scholarship to Division 2 Barry University.

The smooth 6ft 3″ combo guard catapulted into the Top 20 rankings after a solid start to the season which has been finished in style leading his Oakland Wolves to the D-League U18 Playoff Championship being named the MVP posting 24 points. Walshe also took the jump this season to play NBL D1 senior basketball for Essex Leopards where he more than proved he can compete at the highest level.

Walshe, currently ranked #17, is excited to be joining such a successful program but knows there is a lot of hard work ahead of him.

“I feel so blessed and overwhelmed to be apart of a top 10 program that has gone to the Division 2 NCAA tournament three times in the past 3 seasons. Then to add I’m getting a full ride scholarship is truly amazing. My goals are too just work hard and become the best player I can be and to win a national championship.”

Walshe highlights why it’s important for UK players to embrace heading over to play in the USA.

“America is just so much more developed than England in terms of basketball, facilities, programs and level of coaching. The only way you will get better is if you push yourself where the competition out there is a whole different level so I encourage British players to try and play in the US if they get the opportunity.”

From everyone at DENGTOP50, we want to wish Evan all the success in the USA.
